Infection Prevention and Control - Flu

The Care New England Infection Prevention and Control Departments promote patient safety by implementing nationally recognized best practices to prevent and control infection and by educating patients, families, staff and the community. Flu clinics are currently being offered by the VNA of Care New England and state-wide.

Seasonal Influenza (Flu)
The flu is a contagous respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness and can even lead to death. The single best way to protect against the ever-changing flu virus is to get vaccinated each year.

H1N1 Flu
H1N1(formerly called swine flu) is a new influenza virus causing flu-like illness in people. This new virurs was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. The virus is spreading from person-to-person, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread. A vaccine for H1N1 is expected in late fall 2009.

What are multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO)?
Multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO) are germs that are resistant to one or more classes of antibiotics. The most common multi-drug resistant organisms include:
